Variable time step integration

چکیده

Symplectic methods for Hamiltonian systems are known to have favourable properties concerning long-time integrations (no secular terms in the error of the energy integral, linear error growth in the angle variables instead of quadratic growth, correct qualitative behaviour) if they are applied with constant step sizes, while all of these properties are lost in a standard variable step size implementation. In this article we present a \meta-algorithm" which allows us to combine the use of variable steps with symplectic integrators, without destroying the above mentioned favourable properties. We theoretically justify the algorithm by a backward error analysis, and illustrate its performance by numerical experiments.

A Modified Multi Time Step Integration for Dynamic Analysis

In this paper new implicit higher order accuracy (N-IHOA) time integration based on assumption of constant time step is presented for dynamic analysis. This method belongs to the category of the multi time step integrations. Here, current displacement and velocity are assumed to be functions of the velocities and accelerations of several previous time steps, respectively. This definition causes...

Finite integration method with RBFs for solving time-fractional convection-diffusion equation with variable coefficients

In this paper, a modification of finite integration method (FIM) is combined with the radial basis function (RBF) method to solve a time-fractional convection-diffusion equation with variable coefficients. The FIM transforms partial differential equations into integral equations and this creates some constants of integration. Unlike the usual FIM, the proposed method computes constants of integ...

An Efficient Implementation of Phase Field Method with Explicit Time Integration

The phase field method integrates the Griffith theory and damage mechanics approach to predict crack initiation, propagation, and branching within one framework. No crack tracking topology is needed, and complex crack shapes can be captures without user intervention. In this paper, a detailed description of how the phase field method is implemented with explicit dynamics into LS-DYNA is provide...

AAS 04-238 A Variable-Step Double-Integration Multi-Step Integrator

A variable-step double-integration multi-step integrator is derived using divided differences. The derivation is based upon the derivation of Shampine-Gordon, a single-integration method. Variable-step integrators are useful for propagating elliptical orbits, because larger steps can be taken near apogee. As a double-integration method, the integrator performs only one function evaluation per s...

Independent Variable Time-Step Integration of Individual Neurons for Network Simulations

Realistic neural networks involve the coexistence of stiff, coupled, continuous differential equations arising from the integrations of individual neurons, with the discrete events with delays used for modeling synaptic connections. We present here an integration method, the local variable time-step method (lvardt), that uses separate variable-step integrators for individual neurons in the netw...
